Visa for India Travel
A tourist needs a valid passport and visa to travel India. Your passport must have a validity of six months. Carry all the travel documents. If you need visa extension visit the concerned department located in Delhi. Incase you lose your passport while traveling inform the consulate immediately.

Special Permit
To visit some destinations in India, like Andaman Islands, Gujarat, Ladakh, Tawang and more one needs special permits issued by the concerned authority of the state. So if you plan to visit such destinations be sure to issue a permit.

Getting Around and About
Inter-city and Inter-state travel in India are quite easy. As most of the tourist places have good road, rail and air networks. You can travel on Indian Railways to reach some destinations.  There is also wide availability of local transportation. You can hire taxi, auto rickshaws, and private cabs. If you want to drive in India you must have a valid international driving license.

Climate
India has a hot and humid climate. The northern hill stations experience mild summer and chilly winter. For summer hill station tour, the best time period is from April to October. The best time to visit the northern plains is in between October and November and February and March. In brief the off season is from April to July.

Food and Health
Think about before you want to have Indian dish. Indian cuisine is too much spicy and not digestible for Americans and Europeans. However, there are lots of non-spicy cuisines. The cuisine of north-eastern part of India has a unique flavor and less spicy than cuisine of mainland India.

While traveling always drink mineral water of the branded one. Avoid the water in public places. Avoid street foods.

Mosquito Repellant
If you are traveling to some wildlife parks or villages, carry the mosquito net. If you have a dust allergy carry medication. Don’t forget to carry sunscreen.

Smart Shopping
We recommend to shop at the government emporiums. While shopping at the local markets don’t hesitate to bargain. Don’t purchase anything from roadside peddlers who sale semi-precious gems and jewelry.

Trading on some special things like ivory, fur, animal skins, and antiquities is illegal. You must have a legitimate sale and permission certificate to trade on the same.

Social Decorum
Public nudity and public display of affection are not appreciated. If you visit some beaches in Goa you can have freedom. While visiting religious places take off your shoes. While you want to click photographs of public figures, ask for permission.

Beggars
In any city you will see beggars. Don’t hear anything said by them. You can pay 2 to 10 rupees. We Indians pay 1 to 5 rupees.

Books
We recommend the Lonely Planet Guide or India Handbook Guide. At any bookstore you will find it.

Money Exchange Centre
Always take service of bank or authorized money exchange centre. Avoid the third party transfer.

Clothing
Wear decent dress to ward off the evil eye. While visiting the cities you can wear modern dress but while visiting any rural or suburban area dress in a decent way.

Do’s and Don’ts :

  1. Keep the original travel documents in a locked baggage. Carry the attested copies of the same.
  2. Smoking in public places is prohibited.
  3. Always avoid the strangers who might lure you offering lucrative things.
  4. Only take the service of the licensed travel guides.
